Summer Reading

I am half-way through reading this. Here is what I've learned so far:

  • Diets are like internalized corsets

  • Before WWII many women made their own undergarments by hand. When bras became mass produced, arbitrary and standardized sizes became a de facto "norm" so if your body didnt instantaneously fit into them the subliminal message was that your body was not normal.

  • The idea that adolocents girls should worry about their figure came into its own in the 1950's, this coincided with the largest number of American teenagers due to the babyboom

This book is totally badass, I cannot reccommend it enough. And according to TheBodyProject.com a movie is in the works!
