Being Undocumented in the U.S. is Not a Crime

I first heard this on yesterday's broadcast of LatinoUSA on NPR, you can listen here. U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie lays it out:
DOVER, N.J. — New Jersey's top federal prosecutor told a Latino group it's a civil offense - not a crime - for immigrants to live in the country without proper documentation...

In a statement clarifying the remarks, Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak said that although lacking documents is not necessarily a crime in itself, it is a federal misdemeanor to enter the country without going through the proper immigration channels, or to enter by using fraudulent documents.(NY Daily News)
Dear Minutmen:
All that time, effort, money, and technology you spend is preventing misdemeanors. Why not use that energy to stop felons instead?

Amen to that!

Great great great great post.

I almost went to a Minutemen protest last term. Ended up getting canceled due to awful weather.

I wish there would be a Minutemen protest here. Maybe I'll organize one ;)
