Maybe this is because I'm younger, not inside academia, and coming from the third wave, but I don't see a problem with being a Latina and being a feminist. That's intersectionality, right? we can't talk about gender without talking about race, class, post colonialism etc.
In Gloria Anzaldua's Borderlands, she argued for a hybrid culture, for moving away from disempowering aspects of our culture and using feminism to empower aspects of our culture; preserving it in that way (this goes for any culture). There is a tradition of patriarchy in Mexican culture, but there is also a tradition of strong women in Mexican culture, like the corrido of La Adelita, dedicated to all the soldierwomen who fought in the Mexican Revolution.
This is an aspect of my culture that I identify with.I practice my feminism individually, so I have not had enough experience within activist spheres or with mainstream feminism to say whether or not there is a conflict. When I have, I will let you know. Believe it.
